Single-family starts climb for March
Langley Times - Apr 16 2006
Langley Township's booming construction scene slowed somewhat through March, but not in the single-family home sector. Langley Township's planning department issued permits for 86 single-family homes last month, up from 39 in the same month in 2005. The value of the new home starts in March is estimated at $16.7 million, up from just under $7 million in March 2005. But there were no permits issued for multi-family units in March, although the year-to-date total of 181 units (for January and February this year) exceeds the first three months of 2005 (102 units). Total residential value in March, at $25.8 million, was down from the March 2005 total of just over $33 million. Commercial starts also jumped in March, to almost $7 million, up from $1.8 million in the same month last year. Institutional, industrial and agricultural starts were down significantly last month, though the year-to-date totals for industrial starts are almost $8 million higher than Januaary, February and March totals last year. At $72.9 million, total starts year-to-date 2006 are $15 million higher than the same three months in 2005.
