A commercial/residential development in Brookswood’s 200 Street commercial area got the nod from council on Monday.

Council unanimously approved a development permit for the 1,484 square metre (15,974 square foot) three-storey, mixed-use building in the northwest corner of a one-acre site at 4041 200 Street.

The southwest corner of the site is occupied by the existing Brookswood Professional Centre, and the owner, Kenneth H. Mikkelsen, is the proponent for the new project.

A smaller, one-storey veterinary clinic in the northwest corner of the site will be removed.

The ground floor of the new facility consists of 517 square metres (5,565 square feet) of commercial office space, while the upper floors will contain six two-level apartment units and one single-level apartment.

The proposed development complies with existing zoning and guidelines of the Brookswood Community Plan.

Councillor Steve Ferguson said the new building was the first commercial development in Brookswood facilitated by the new sewer trunk line serving the area, built for the High Point development in South Langley.
