Langley zones for higher density

The City of Langley has revised zoning regulations to ease restrictions on developers and create more opportunities for increased density in new multi-family housing and retail in the downtown core.

The zoning bylaw change supports the city's vision for greater mixed-use, residential/commercial density and an enhanced downtown area. "This type of development will bring more people into the area, thus creating a safer and more vibrant city centre," according to a city release.

The increased density will strengthen the economic success of local businesses, lead to enhanced public transit and improve the overall attractiveness of the community for residents, businesses and visitors alike, said Mayor Peter Fassbender.

The zoning change is apparently welcomed by developers. "The City of Langley has always been attractive for developers. Low DCC rates and an extremely supportive city council and staff have always made the city a great place to develop," said Robert Dominick of Wetstone Properties, who said Wetstone is "more encouraged" to develop in the downtown area following the zoning change.
